The University of California Irvine is recognized as a world-class institution that fosters a dynamic environment for research. Organized research programs are conducted within Schools and Departments across the campus and within numerous UCI Centers and Institutes. Centers and Institutes, such as the UCI Environment Institute, provide a mechanism and organizational structure for inter-disciplinary research activities that span disciplines and academic units, making it possible for investigators to acquire extramural resources for which they might not otherwise qualify. Both research approaches are critical to gaining an understanding the complex interactions and interdependence of science, innovation, and society on the environment.
The UCI Environment Institute will provide direct sponsorship of selected short-term, inter-disciplinary research projects to promote campus research and education in the areas of global change, energy, and sustainable resources. Details of these activities are posted at Call for Proposals and Institute Projects on this site. The Institute will also work to coordinate and promote awareness of other research activities across the campus - in Schools and Departments and Centers and Institutes - that address broad issues related to the environment, global change, energy, and sustainable resources.
Active research programs within Schools and Departments and Centers and Institutes at UC Irvine will be identified on this page.
